What to Prepare Before Requesting a Custom Sock Sample
A practical buyer checklist for turning a reference image, pattern or product idea into a clearer sampling discussion.
A useful sample discussion starts with the decisions that affect construction, appearance and project scope. Buyers do not need a complete technical pack, but a structured brief helps both sides identify missing information before sampling begins.
1. Start with the intended use
Explain where and how the sock will be used: a soccer match, team training, a Pilates studio, hiking footwear or another non-medical application. Intended use gives context to later discussions about height, cushioning, ventilation, grip and reinforcement.
2. Share the clearest visual direction available
A reference photo, pattern, artwork file, existing sample or short written brief can all be useful starting points. Mark which details must be retained and which can be adjusted for knitting or processing feasibility.
- Logo or artwork placement and approximate size
- Required colors and any available color references
- Sock height and overall silhouette
- Patterns, grip coverage or functional zones that matter most
3. Define size, quantity and color combinations
List the expected sizes, quantity for each size and number of colors. Nalmoria's current discussion baseline is 120 pairs per color per size. Final feasibility and project details are confirmed after the complete requirement is reviewed.
4. Separate essential functions from preferences
Identify which requirements are essential and which are optional. Yarn composition, cushioning, ventilation, reinforcement, grip material and pattern direction can be discussed against the intended use, target cost and available production route.
5. Include packaging, testing and delivery context
Individual retail packaging is not included by default. If labeling, special packaging, testing documentation, DDP evaluation or a buyer-appointed freight forwarder is relevant, include it in the initial brief so the scope can be reviewed separately.
6. Expect open points before sampling
Sampling is used to turn the agreed direction into something that can be reviewed. Material, construction, artwork placement, sizing and commercial details may still require confirmation. Production timing depends on product category, style, quantity and process complexity rather than a universal lead-time promise.
